Wiki: Aix-en-Provence is a university city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. It was the birthplace of Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne. The white limestone mountain Sainte-Victoire overlooking the city as well as the surrounding countryside were frequent subjects of his works.
We did a little bit of the Cezzane walk, but it was too hot for twenty stops. We found a couple of churches and wandered around the old town. This is a beautiful city and we’re enjoying taking it at a slower pace. There are far fewer people here, so we taking our time and smelling the roses.
Place Saint-Jean de Malte: This 13th-century Gothic church in Aix’s Quartier Mazarin, built as a fortified place of worship by the Knights Hospitaller, was the first of its kind in Provence and was once the burial place of the medieval Counts of Provence. It sports a 67m tower, and its ancient priory has been converted into the wonderful Musée Granet.
We stopped for a drink and when the waiter served us drinks, he asked for the food order. We said we were just resting and that, apparently, was not the right response. So, bring on the cheese plate and ice cream. We literally had breakfast two hours ago.
Google translate rocks!!! Did you know you could hover over an item with words and it will translate whatever langauge into whatever language you select. Here is an example of our resting place specials. How did we ever travel before without smartphones?
Do you know that on the European Continent the shops and restaurants like to take siestas in the afternoons from 2:00 - 6/7:00? And a lot of them take the whole month of July off, as well. We haven’t really changed our eating times because we’re basically eating a late breakfast and then dinner. Tonight, we probably walked a mile to find something open - occasionally Google does lie. Open doesn’t actually mean “open.” And again, we’re aren’t foodies so don’t ask me where or what we ate, lol. It’s not fast food, but it’s also not Michelin.
Lastly, for tonight, Martha and I have very!!!! different viewing habits. She is ensconced with her iPad watching season three of the Sopranos. I’m on Peacock watching the Olympics in multiview. Love technology!
