Day 6 - Budapest

Today is our last full day in Budapest. What an amazing city and so beautiful. The Danube just outside our hotel, being able to walk to many places, and although it was hot, the weather has been great.

Jet lag is a tricky thing. I would have said we were acclimated right up until we slept until noon today. There might have been wine involved last night, but whatever.

Once we got rolling we walked to the Central Market. This is a huge building with everything imaginable in it. I don’t understand how so many vendors selling the same thing can make money. There must have been 20 vegetable booths, at least 5 meat booths, and too many knick knack booths to count.

There are four bridges in our area of Budapest. We have managed to drive across two and walk across three: Liberty, Chain, Margaret. It is quite a trek and very windy in the middle. Definitely not the day to wear your hair down, which Martha did, lol.

We jumped back on the Hop on Bus as they did not validate our tickets on the first day so they’re the gift that keeps on working, and took it to the Funicular. If there’s a tourist attraction (trap) we’re probably going to pony up. The Funicular goes from the river up to the castle area. Great view on the ride up.

Many of the buildings have Roman numerals which Martha can easily translate. Her family’s initials are all Roman numerals. And she is happy when people notice her email address has a Roman component too MMMC3100@. Martha got this one without cheating. Maggie, not so much.

After the funicular ride we found a roof top bar over looking the Danube. A perfect way to finish our time in the city.

Martha’s addendum: I will admit that the only information I knew about Budapest came from watching Green Acres as a kid. And, coincidentally, Green Acres was also my earliest introduction to New York City. I always knew I would eventually love both cities. It just took a bit longer to love Budapest. I couldn’t wait to have Goulash, see the Buda Castle (what’s left of it), and boat down the Danube. It was everything Lisa and ‘Olivah’ said it was. I will definitely visit Budapest again.
