Day 41 - Geneva, Switzerland

Updated: Aug 10, 2024

We are not staying at a Marriott (shocker!) so we did not have breakfast included. Therefore, no need to set an alarm to arrive five minutes before closing. Yay!! Sleeping in rocks!

We road Le Petit Train around the water front this morning. Geneva is just gorgeous, with the lake and the Alps off in the distance.

Lake Geneva sometimes Lac de Geneve, is a lake on the north side of the Alps, shared between Switzerland and France. It is one of the largest lakes in Western Europe and the largest on the course of the Rhone. One third of the lake belongs to France and two thirds belong to Switzerland. I’m not sure where the line is so I hope all boating accidents are firmly on one side of the line or the other.

We found the Black Tap for lunch. It is apparently renowned for its shakes. We however, had a beer. The food was excellent, according to us the really non-foodies. Martha’s Korean BBQ chicken salad was the best meal she has had the entire trip. We may have to repeat this place.

This poster was above our table, with the songs of our teens and twenties on the cassette tapes: Total Eclipse of the Heart, Jesse’s Girl, Journey, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Faith, Hit me with your Best Shot. Very cool. The manager didn’t speak English, and we def don’t speak French, but Google Translate to the rescue to tell him how much we enjoyed lunch.

We trekked to the Cathedral St. Pierre, which of course was up steps and a hill! Wiki: Saint Pierre Cathedral is the principal church of the Reformed Protestant Church of Geneva. Previously it was a Roman Catholic cathedral, having been converted in 1535. It is known as the adopted home church of John Calvin, one of the leaders of the Protestant Reformation. Inside the church is a wooden chair used by Calvin.

We found a rooftop bar for sunset! The Met was quite nice. I watched the USWNT (soccer) punch their ticket to the soccer final on Saturday. I’m especially happy as we have tickets and it’s way more fun when it’s our team🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
