Day 25 - Livorno, Italy

Updated: Jul 22, 2024

We are three and half weeks into our trip with three weeks to go, so on day 25, we rested.

Wiki: Livorno is an Italian port city on the west coast of Tuscany. It's known for its seafood, Renaissance-era fortifications and modern harbor with a cruise ship port. Its central Terrazza Mascagni, a waterside promenade with checkerboard paving, is the city's main gathering place.

Livorno is also the jumping off point to Pisa, Florence, and Tuscany. At this point you’re questioning our sanity for not leaving the ship, but we were here a few years ago and saw the sights. Our friends, however, booked an amazing excursion ending with a concert at the Botticelli Winery.

A day in port, especially this port, means the ship is almost empty. Our concierge treated us to a tour of the Haven suites area. These are the high ends suites with their own, pool, restaurant, bars, and service people. On the Viva, it’s an amazingly beautiful area. So, I’m already planning the next trip.

I’m so proud of Martha. She finally bought a shirt. Of course, not one that shows any of our destinations or ports of call. But it is a step forward. And, it offsets the five that I have bought, so far, lol

Martha’s add: my friends make fun of me for packing random wierd things like bungee cords and zip ties … until they need them. Then who’s the hero? You are welcome Jerry! One time we were switching hotels in Hawaii and were hanging out in a bar (shocker!) to wait until check in. They were setting up for an outside event and were using the soccer tents that were blowing away in the Hawaiian winds. I overheard them screaming at each other because there was not time for a Home Depot run for zip ties to secure them to the fence. We totally drank for free because I pulled out a dozen of them from my backpack. Score!

Dinner was at the ship at Cagney’s Steakhouse and it was amazing. Overall the food on the ship hasn’t been great and this is coming from two people who aren’t foodies. It’s just been a lot of meh. But who cares, we cruised the Med for ten days with a great group of friends. We win.

I’ve always thought white wine drinkers are short changed on wine glasses but dammit. NO
