Day 24 - Capri, Italy

We arrived in the Port of Naples and this was the view from our balcony.

Wiki: Capri, an island in Italy’s Bay of Naples, is famed for its rugged landscape, upscale hotels and shopping, from designer fashions to limoncello and handmade leather sandals. One of its best-known natural sites is the Blue Grotto, a dark cavern where the sea glows electric blue, the result of sunlight passing through an underwater cave.

We did not do an official tour today, other than using ship transportation to get to the island. But wait, our Group 1 non-tour guide / drill sergeant ended up hanging with us and guiding us around Anacapri and Capri. Francesca was awesome. Stand here, wait there, pay there, move now - sounds harsh but was actually fun.

The views from Anacapri - wow. That is Mount Vasuveus behind us on the point. And there were limoncello tastings at most of the shops along our stroll.

If they think this sign is going to keep Martha from petting every cat she sees, then they wasted their money.

The bus up to Anacapri took a VERY windy route on a very small road with lots of switchbacks. When the buses pass each other, it is like riding on the Night Bus in Harry Potter. I swear the buses sucked in and got more narrow. There was only inches between them. And then they resume full speed on the road. Very scary.

We went halfway down the mountain to Capri for lunch and this was the view.

After lunch, we rode the funicular the rest of the way down the mountain. It was a very steep climb and also didn’t seem to be very safe. But we made it down.

If you’ve read recent articles about cruise passengers being left at ports, know that 99.9% of the time it’s the passenger’s fault. The ship tells you what time to be back, they generally wait 15 ish minutes and then you’re toast. Well today we were excursion number 1, literally the first excursion off the ship at 7:00 AM. Funnily enough we were also the last excursion back on the ship, AFTER the embarkation time. BUT! since we were an NCL hosted excursion, they couldn’t leave without us. The ferry back from Capri was late, we had to wait for everyone to get off and be counted, walk to the buses to take us to the ship, and freaking meander around the port to get to the ship. There were def people on the ferry who were not on an excursion, and I said “you just have to beat our bus back to the boat”. Since we took 20-30 minutes, I hope they were successful.

We dined with our buddies and had a very enjoyable dinner. Los Lobos - yes we all were missing our Mexican food. It was the best dinner so far!

I made it back to the room as the sun was disappearing.
