Day 12 - Zakynthos, Greece

Updated: Jul 21, 2024

We made it to our VRBO, finally. Flight times so far seem to be a suggestion, not necessarily reality. We landed an hour late, luggage all made it, we go outside, and there is no driver. Sigh. I tried calling the villa owner but it was a wrong number. After searching and waiting around for 15 minutes, we hailed a cab. As soon as he loaded us up, the owner called and asked where we were. I had to say, ‘in a cab because we never saw your driver.’ We all kept our cool and it all worked out in the end.

After 30 minutes of driving like a bat out of hell, I swear I could see Linda flying through the windshield if we had to slam on the brakes, we found the villa. Since it was very late and very dark, we could not see the sea, but we knew it was right there because we could hear it.

This morning though:

Then we had to get in the water.

Martha was the picture taker so I captured her by the pool.

We met the bartender at the bar next to our villa. Kristo is the sweetest. He made restaurant recommendations and called a taxi for us.

We went to the town of Tsilivi for late lunch. We didn’t eat at Popeye’s but were amazed at their menu. Martha and Jerry were waiting for el bano, lol. Their never ending story.

Don’t worry, we are all hydrating. Also, notice the top of the water bottle. The tops unscrew but they don’t come off. European genius.

A little wiki on Zakythos: Zakynthos is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea and a well-known summer resort. The harbor city of Zakynthos is the capital. Popular beaches like Agios Nikolaos, Alykanas and Tsilivi offer swimming and water sports. Accessed by boat, Navagio beach is the site of a famed 1980 shipwreck resting in a sandy cove framed by cliffs. MT - more on this tomorrow.

Since we have a washing machine, we took advantage and had laundry day three. I’m sure there will be one more before we go to Athens.

And then we took advantage of one of the outdoor seating areas at the villa and had almost sunset wine.
