Day 7 - Serbia

Updated: Jul 5, 2024

We made it to Serbia! First off what a beautiful country. We had no idea.

So getting here: hotel check out was 11, flight was at 4. In Europe, the check in counters are sort of randomly assigned, or it seems random to me. Welp, you can’t check in until 2 hours before the flight. And we had to check in because, you know, Julie’s bag. (Amazon doesn’t deliver to Serbia, but Maggie and Martha do!). So we found a table and hung out for 90 minutes. We checked in and found that we had to check our bags too as they were too big for the overhead, that should have been a warning.

TSA fail counter: 1

Extra Screening Pat Down counter: 3 (both of us today)

Offense: Maggie-something about my collar; Martha-both of her times they went right to where her bandages are on her side. But there is nothing metal or weird there, just gauze, tape, and plastic. So, no idea what they are seeing.

Remedy: they let us through

Plane was late but no worries. We get on the bus to get to the plane. Ummmm. It is very small.

Ok, the plane landed in Belgrade. All bags showed up (YAY) and we went to rent the car, which was in front of the parking garage. In America it would be the huge structure in front of you when you walk out and there would be lots of signage. In Serbia, it’s hidden behind trees and mobile structures holding the car rental offices. Sigh

Off we go with google maps heading 2.5 hours away with all the road signs in Serbian and kilometers and google mispronouncing everything. Martha announced the trip “blue dot approved” meaning the car and google maps were in sync on our direction.

The drive was beautiful and pretty easy once we left Belgrade. A1 to 36 to Camp Timok.

We made it to Julie and Chip’s casa in time for wine and a very late dinner. More on that tomorrow as it was dark when we arrived so we can’t wait to see how gorgeous it is.
