Day 2 - Flying

First off, why can’t I sleep on an overnight flight??? Martha is fast asleep beside me even though her seat is broken and won’t fully recline. How does she do that? (she says it comes from her mother’s side; that family can sleep any time, any place, any way.) But nope, I’m awake. I can’t take sleep aids unless I can get at least 8 hours because I’ll feel terrible the next day. Definitely a first world problem.
Lufthansa planes actually do have real plugs, although maybe not in coach. I am not sure why the check in guy made such a big deal out of the plugs. Weird. We are fully prepared with various chargers, so it didn’t matter to us.
We had the best flight attendant, Vera; and hilarious people behind us who photobombed our every selfie. It’s all good because it was the lady’s birthday.
After dinner, Vera said we had to try a true German after dinner drink whose name was unpronounceable, but it was supposed to be a peach something or other. Um yes it was a bit lethal, and yet, still no sleep for Maggie.
Lufthansa’s boarding process was a lot less chaotic than AA. It was more like Southwest, except group numbers instead of boarding pass numbers. We were group 2 and as we waited in line, they checked passports so you could scan your boarding pass and get on the plane quickly. They had groups 3-6 lining up as well. It was pretty efficient.
Julie B, your bag made it to Budapest. Yay.
We thought about a tour in Frankfurt during our layover, but the logistics of luggage, getting into the city, walking around, getting back to the airport in a 5-hour period, seemed a bit much. And it’s raining and Euro 2024. Therefore, we are Lufthansa lounge lizards for the day. Happily, the sleeping loungers freed up and we got a couple hours of sleep. There’s nothing like catching some shut eye in a small room with other tired strangers. But, they didn’t have a Martha, who pulled out a blanket and pillow from her backpack for me.
On to Budapest!
As foreshadowed in the Day 0 post, it didn’t take long for Martha to get pulled out of security. We will keep a running tally throughout the trip.
TSA fail counter: 1
Extra Screening Pat Down counter: 1
Offense: unknown as the TSA agent didn’t even open the bag; just looked at it on the secondary monitor while we waited
Remedy: N/A
