Day 27 - Random: Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign

For those of you who know me, I read all signs - out loud - much to the chagrin of Maggie (and one surly limo driver in Florida who will not be hired again because he did not appreciate my running commentary, but that is a story of a different day).

I love signs so much I have even published a book (2 copies in circulation) on various bathroom signs I’ve encountered in my travels. Who knew there were so many ways to say women and men!

The thing that I have noticed about signs in the UK is that they use so many words to convey a single point. By the time I am finished reading the sign and translating the meaning, we are on to the next one. Also, there are just some weird food combinations. And, like the states, every road is under construction one way or another.

Here are a few that signs that I have found odd and managed to take a picture of:

The English are too stinking polite. The "Fancy doing the washing up?" was leading to the kitchen area - so it means "keep out, unless you want to wash dishes."

Weird food combinations. The Clamshell is a very small restaurant (just the width of the window and door) but according to their signs, they serve fish and chips, pizzas and kebabs, burgers, baked potatoes, fried mars bars, wraps, and a bunch of alcohol.

Red means stop - always

Construction everywhere

Just too many words

Bikes in the UK are really like Ted Lasso, except this one (at least they left the lock)

A lot of places are named Duncan. Admiral Duncan was London, Doctor Duncan was Liverpool

As if we don't have enough enemies to fight, now we are up against the "Unflushables"

This one doesn’t belong here, but I forgot it in Chipping Camden. Here is High Street in 1900 and in 2022
