We spent the afternoon on the Royal Yacht Britannia. It was decommissioned in 1997 after more than 40 years of service and 1 million nautical miles. It is a very posh place, with a few oddities.
The Queen and the Duke had separate bedrooms, each with a single size bed!!!!
The Queen's formal dining room sat 56, and invited guests could keep the menu which was written in French. It took three hours to set the table: 56 seats with 27 plates, glasses, and utensils each.
The crew played wombat for fun and sometimes things ended up in places they were not supposed to be. The wombat was given to a sailor by his girlfriend and he was charged with taking great care of it while he was at sea. You can see how it turned out for the wombat.
There was a carport on the deck before cars were readily available throughout the Commonwealth. If it wasn’t the Land Rover, it might’ve been the Rolls
And as always, I made Martha take many an ussie with me throughout the ship.
Since we were good girls who spent all day touring, and did not try to save the beach ball in the road, we stopped for well deserved beers at The Last Drop. So named as it is next to the sight for public hangings 1660-1784: either their last drop of drink prior to execution or literally their last drop through the scaffold trapdoor.
