Soooo Chipping Campden (CC) is in a the Cotswolds. From the internet: The Cotswolds are famous for the honey-hued stone architecture. The golden colour of the buildings adds so much charm to the already very pretty towns and villages. This oolitic (I looked up the definition of oolitic and it didn’t help at all 🤣🤣) Jurassic limestone has been quarried in the area for hundreds of years.
Part of the purpose of the trip was to do things we’ve never done and go places we’ve never been. This is one of them. It is near Stratford-upon-Avon (SUA) which is a medieval market town in England’s West Midlands and is the 16th-century birthplace of William Shakespeare.
I researched and read reviews and picked a B&B in CC. Don’t ask me why we aren’t in SUA; I cannot remember my last fall thinking.
This B&B is unique in that it doesn’t take plastic; straight cash homey. I asked the owner why that is and he basically said ‘It’s easier for us as we are technology challenged..‘ But Carole, who runs it, used to be in banking, so hmmmm. Martha was very concerned that this meant no internet. But the ‘net has definitely found CC. Everyone is happy.
Les picked us up at the train station and we drove 20 minutes to the B&B. We heard all about the surrounding area and their son Jack. Jack’s wedding was delayed by Covid, but finally happened in the same church Carol and Les were married in.
What we don’t hear about at all, but learned when we get to the B&B, is that Carole has a detached retina and cannot do any of things that come with owning a B&B, including the breakfast part. Carole told us she’d canceled every reservation except ours. We are not sure why we weren’t canceled as well, but we are thankful and just rolling with it. And, we have the run of the place since we are the only ones here.
We thought Les would be available to drive us around a bit, but he’s booked with his regular customers; so we are going to venture out on the bus tomorrow and Monday to hit Broadway and SUA. We will let you know how that goes.
Before we embarked on the odyssey, Martha and I agreed to low expectations, i.e., stuff will go wrong and we just need to roll with. Welp, we left Wales early due to a train strike and there’s no B at the B&B, but we are in the beautiful Cotswolds, enjoying a drink at the Red Lion Tavern. No complaints here; we just thought you’d enjoy the story.
